In my art piece above, the problem I solved was "limited materials". And as the piece shows, my limited material was post-it notes! I created a shroom from
super Mario Bros out of blue, green, and pink post-it notes. When scoping out the canvas for the piece I realized using whole post-it notes was gonna take up a bunch of space; more than I had available to me. To solve this problem, I cut the post-it notes into fourths to cut the size down. A second obstacle was I couldn't find black or white post-it notes. So, intead I used pink and blue as substitutes.
I Take Risks:
The medium I chose, post-it notes, is one I've never used before. I wasn't sure if relying on the stickiness of the post-it note to keep my art together would work out, but I tried it anyway and my piece stayed intact. Also, the entire post-it note isn't sticky just the top strip, so the bottom parts flared out. This was a concern because it could take attention away from the piece. After it all, the flaring out added a good touch to the art and portrayed the special medium that I used.
Above is an in- progress pnoto after I laid out just plain yellow post-it notes to see how the medium worked and to label what color went where
I Reflect:
As seen above, I took the time to stop, reflect my work, and see where to go next. The picture above what a middle to later step in the art process. Here I looked at whether or not the medium was doing what I wanted it to do. I was looking for any distractions the post- it notes brought to the piece. I was pleased to see everything was going according to plan and I moved on to labeling where the different colors went. I had the blues in certain spots and the pinks in their spots, but I thought about how the blues would blend in with the greens too much. So, I switched the blues and the pinks and it came out much nicer due to the switch.
